What are white fillings?
White fillings are a common term for composite resin fillings. These fillings are made of a resin like material which starts as a putty like consistency so we can mould it exactly to your tooth, and when exposed to a special light, it becomes hard. Composites come in many different shades and we select the right one so that it blends in with your tooth.
Why do we use them more than amalgam (silver coloured fillings)?
Amalgam fillings have been used for a very long time. However, amalgam is metal in colour and not aesthetic and can stand out when you smile. These fillings may stain your tooth and it is common to find cracks around them. For these reasons we use white filling materials now. To provide you with the most aesthetic fillings possible.
