Crowns and Bridges
Crowns and bridges can help to build the natural function and aesthetics of your tooth/teeth by using the latest technology, highest quality materials and best techniques. Advances in technology have now made it possible to create beautiful, extremely strong and durable restorations so you can smile and function with confidence.
What is a crown?
A crown, or cap, is a tooth-like shell bonded over a prepared existing tooth. It is used to strengthen, restore or improve the appearance of your natural tooth. Reasons for requiring a crown could be when a tooth has been extensively weakened or restored, or when a tooth is cracked or broken. They are often placed on a tooth after root canal treatment to prevent fracture.
Conventional crowns are made of porcelain, fused to a metal substructure. Another type of crown is a porcelain crown, free from metal. The latest advances in cosmetic dental materials have allowed for the construction of highly aesthetic, translucent metal free crowns that imitate the characteristics of a natural tooth perfectly. Your dentist will guide you in which type of crown is best suited to your individual situation.
Well constructed and accurately fitting crowns can last several years.
What is a Bridge?
When you are missing one or more teeth, one option for replacing that missing tooth may be a bridge. A dental bridge is a fixed restoration that fills in the open space left behind by a missing tooth or teeth. They can be attached over healthy teeth or on top of dental implants using the same materials as a crown.
What is Involved?
Your tooth is meticulously prepared for the placement of a crown or bridge. After preparation, an impression of the tooth is taken and this is sent to a laboratory where a crown or the bridge is carefully constructed to mimic your natural teeth and fit perfectly into your bite. In the interim we construct a temporary restoration to cover your prepared tooth to keep you comfortable. At a second visit approximately 2-3 weeks after your initial appointment, your crown/bridge is bonded to your tooth using the very latest materials.
With the latest advancements in CEREC technology, we now also offer Same Day Crowns. This does away with the need for a second appointment to fit your crown. Now crowns can be prepped, milled and cemented all in one visit! Saving you time and offering you the very best in patient care. Click here to learn more about same day crowns.
